A Natural Women
Female health car with Jane Hutchens.

From adolescence through to post-menopause, women may experience a variety of concerns including pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS), painful periods, endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome, infertility, pregnancy, and of course the menopause transition.
Some women seem to cruise through their reproductive years whilst others seem to have great difficulties. Nutritional and herbal treatments can be enormously beneficial in managing women’s health conditions and
can be used alone or alongside orthodox treatments, such as IVF.
Jane Hutchens is a degree qualified naturopath and registered nurse who has worked in women’s health for 15 years. “Women’s health is an area where naturopathy really shines – our reproductive health is in many ways
a barometer of our overall health, and it responds so well to nutritional support, exercise and relaxation and especially herbal medicine” says Jane.
Endometriosis, for example, is a complex condition which often causes pain and sub-fertility, and women can gain much through a holistic approach. Jane conducts thorough assessments and testing, and then
recommends evidenced-based dietary support and herbal medicine that can provide clients with greatly improved symptoms, better quality
of life and improved fertility. These treatments can also be used to support women who proceed with surgical treatment, meaning they are complementary to orthodox treatment.
Couples who are seeking to have a healthy pregnancy and baby can attend for preconception care, which looks at health, nutrition, lifestyle, and environmental issues that might be impacting on their health and
potentially their fertility, and the health of their child. By spending this
time before getting pregnant couples can have a profound effect on the
health of their baby and in improving pregnancy outcomes for mother
and child.
Jane works alongside Vera Payne at Harmony Healthworks Penrith,
providing individualised, holistic care for everyone.

Back to Breathing
By Vera Payne of Harmony Healthworks 4731 4226.

In meditation we use breath to help us focus and slow the body and mind
down, but did you know you can tone the belly and therefore help your
back from overworking and causing you pain, by just breathing correctly?
Try this quick practice. Sit in a chair or lie down with your knees bent,
feet flat on the floor. Take a long slow breath into your lower abdominals
(around and below your belly button) allowing your waist to expand (front,
sides and going into the back). As you exhale, shrink your abdominal
muscles (imagine you are trying to squeeze into a tight pair of jeans!).
Repeat for about 10 breath cycles. Allow your shoulder, neck and other
muscles to relax.
The muscles’ job is to pull together to create a supportive framework for
your body, so by focusing on contracting the abdominal muscles on the
out breath you are effectively doing a workout strengthening the abs and
saving your back!
